How it works
EarAnchor trains one skill: hearing two notes and naming the distance between them.
The levels
- Level 1: Close Intervals — Unison, Minor second, Major second, Minor third, Major third.
- Level 2: Fourths and Fifths — Perfect fourth, Tritone, Perfect fifth.
- Level 3: Sixths, Sevenths, and Octaves — Minor sixth, Major sixth, Minor seventh, Major seventh, Octave.
All three levels are available from the start. Answer buttons always appear in musical order, from smallest to largest.
Modes
- Level Session: 10 scored questions from one level, spread as evenly as possible across its intervals.
- Mixed Review: 10 scored questions from two or more levels; the answer buttons include every interval in those levels.
- Practice: any levels or hand-picked intervals, no question limit and no score. Practice is reported separately from scored sessions.
Audio settings
- Melodic direction: ascending, descending, or both.
- Harmonic intervals: off by default. When on, some questions play both notes together.
- Volume and the pause between continuous repeats are saved with your account.
If the recordings for a combination aren't available, the setup screen says so before you start.
During a question
- Press Start. The interval plays once.
- The answer buttons unlock when it has finished.
- Use Repeat to hear it again, Continuous to loop it with a pause, and Stop to silence it.
- Choose one answer. You'll see the correct interval, a short explanation, and an anchor song.
- Select Next when you're ready — nothing moves on by itself.
Keyboard: number keys answer, R repeats, C toggles continuous, S stops.
